In order to address patient safety, general well-being, and successful outcomes, a joint statement has just been released by the AANA (American Association of Nurse Anesthetists) and the APNA (American Psychiatric Nurses Association).
This statement highlights the crucial part that CRNAs and PMH nurses play in the implementation of ketamine infusion therapy for mental health disorders. In addition to this, it also supports providers with much needed resources. Further, by investing in the standards and scope of practice of both CRNAs and PMH nurses, this collaborate ensures that ketamine infusion therapy is conducted in an effective and safe manner.

This form of therapy is increasingly being used for mental health issues. These include: post-traumatic stress disorder, treatment resistant depression, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder. CRNAs receive in depth training in ketamine infusion therapy, so that they can treat individuals with medication resistant and chronic mental health diseases. Moreover, they collaborate with PMH nurses and other professionals who specialize in the treatment, diagnosis, and assessment of psychiatric mental health disorders.
